Mary Florence (Salzgaber) Brush

Mary Florence Brush (née Salzgaber) died peacefully on March 29, 2017 enjoying the fresh air and sunshine in Columbus, OH at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Robert Brush, siblings Clarence Jr, Robert, Ralph, Louise, Clara and Violet. Mary is survived by her sister Betty S. Patch and sister-in-law Betty H Salzgaber, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Mary was born on September 12, 1923 to Clarence and Elsie Salzgaber. She graduated from Hilliards High School in 1942 and from Franklin University with a BS in Business Administration in 1970. She married Bob Brush her high school sweetheart in 1947. She and Bob enjoyed traveling the world especially the trips to Carousel Society Conventions and were founding members of the Original Hilliard Garden Club. Mary was a devoted caregiver to her family often taking nieces and nephews along on trips.  She was employed by Ranco, Franklin University, Ohio State University and Columbus Public Schools.  Mary was a descendant of Columbus founder Johann Christian Heyl and a member of the pioneer families of Franklin County. Mary was past matron of the Corinthian Chapter, OES, Past Priestess Thea Court #5 Ladies of the Oriental Shrine of NA, Mother of Mary’s Little Lambs Class LOSNA. She was a kind and gracious individual who loved her family and she wrote the most perfect thank you notes. She was a dedicated member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church who sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.  She was a tireless volunteer for the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop. Her encyclopedia-like knowledge of gardening was astounding. Visiting hours are scheduled for Saturday April 8 from 10 – 11 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11 am at DEYO-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 1578 W. First Ave Grandview Hts, OH. Reverend Ralph Salzgaber Jr, will officiate the ceremony. Eastern Star service 10:30 am, Saturday. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary’s life.
