Jean Hershberger Keitz

Jean Hershberger Keitz, 95, February 11, 2017 at Westminster-Thurber Community. She was born in Columbus on May 19, 1921 and her family was one of the earliest residents of Upper Arlington moving there in 1928. Graduate of Upper Arlington High School (1939) and Ohio State University (1943) where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. During her teen years, Jean was considered a “diving phenomenon” winning many local and state championships. From 1943-1946 she was in the U.S. Naval Reserve (WAVES) Lt. (JG). She and her brother, Pete, were thought to be the only brother and sister of the same rank in the same branch of the service at the same time. She taught elementary school in Upper Arlington for over 20 years. She was a member of TWIG and the Riverside Hospital Women’s Auxiliary Board. Preceded in death by husband Robert Charles Keitz, brother Joseph Peter Hershberger III and sister Mary Elizabeth Clark. Survived by daughters Judy Keitz of Lexington, KY and Patty (Keith) Klink of Lawrenceburg, KY; grandchildren Brian (Melissa) Klink and Laura (Kyle) Lucas; great grandchildren Brendan & Brady Klink, Kinley, Jayci & Rylan Lucas; many nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, 12 Noon at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, 3225 Dublin Rd. The family would like to thank her caregivers at WTC and OL Hospice Care, in particular Holly, Liza, Julie, Precious and Ester.
