Delilah (Whitlow) Aho

August 18, 1923 ~ December 12, 2020 (age 97)


Delilah Ann Rosemary Whitlow Aho passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Giles Lee Whitlow, Laura Madden Whitlow and stepmother Leona Wilson Whitlow; her dear husband of 52 years John Donald Aho; her Guardian Angel Viola Offenbaker; and devoted son-in-law Christopher Parsons. A graduate of Columbus Central High School (1939) and The Ohio State University (1944), she was a social worker, a Teachers’ Aide at Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School, and a local political activist. Delilah raised a family of four children: Laura Lee Parsons Swartz (David), Margaret Ann Smith (David), Donna Susan Gehrisch (Philip), and Eric Ward Aho (Amy).  She loved her grandchildren: Spencer Whitlow  Parsons, C Neil Parsons (Hannah), Erik E. Parsons (Kathy), Allison Ann Smith Krack (Dustin), Rachel Smith (Michael Houser), Matthew Gehrisch (Rebecca), Brian Gehrisch (Iuliana), Christina Gehrisch, Nickolas Aho, Kyla Aho and Davis Aho; as well as her 6 great grandchildren: Ned and Charlie Parsons, Warren and Gretta Gehrisch, and Diana and Alexandra Gehrisch. Over the years Delilah worked with, and supported many civic, social and church organizations.   Among these are the Grandview Library Association, CAR, DAR, First Family of Virginia, NNEMAP Food Pantry, Eastern Star, Beauceant, Camp Fire Girls, YWCA Apron String Holiday,  Scandinavian Club, The Franklin County Democratic Women’s Society, The League of Women Voters, Columbus Panhellenic Association, St Luke’s Lutheran Church, Boulevard Presbyterian Church, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Cursillo Movement,  Gideons, and several other world-wide Christian ministries. The family would like to thank the army of caregivers who have served Mom so well over the years.  Pam Ratliff, Meg McWhirter, Virginia Paquette,  Florence Sarpning, and Yvonne Enchill;  Yvonne Yeboah, her husband Paapa Yeboah, and their lovely children;  Michael Juhola; and thanks to Julie Raccio for always being there at a moment’s notice.
