Doris Axe Applegate, born Oct. 29, 1937, to the late Alfred and Ethel (Wood) Axe in Steubenville, Ohio. Passed away Sept. 10, 2014 at her Friendship Village Columbus apartment. Graduated from Teays Valley High School, Ashville, in 1955. Earned undergraduate teaching degree in speech language pathology from Ohio University in 1959 and a master's in education from Ohio State University in August 1975. Began teaching career in Fairborn, Ohio but worked most of her career at Columbus City Schools. Avid reader, bridge player and Cleveland Browns and OSU sports fan. Long-time Worthington resident worshipped at Linworth U.M. She lived a few years in Dublin, Hilliard and Grandview Heights after her retirement.Preceded in death by sister Shirley and brother-in-law Bob Swoyer. Survived by daughter Karla (Brian) Ball, granddaughter Sarah and grandson David of Grandview Heights; nieces LuAnn (Swoyer) Oliver and Leah (Swoyer) Fearing and their children; beloved cousins and other family members and friends. Family requests donations be made in Doris' memory to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.Calling hours will take place from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the DEYO-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 1578 W.
