Jean M. Bland, 88, May 14, 2009 at First Community Village. Long-time resident of Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington. She was born on October 23, 1920 and raised in Flushing, Ohio. Jean started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Flushing, Ohio and later taught for many years in Columbus Schools. She then worked at and retired from the Greyhound Corporation. She attended The Ohio State University, Ohio University and Muskingum College. She loved watching and cheering on the OSU Buckeyes. Preceded in death by her husband Donald whom she married on May 15, 1949; parents Margaret and Harold Murphy; brothers Darl and James Murphy and sister Betty Shutway. Survived by loving children Kathy (Lindsey) Rayburn and Donald Bland, Jr. (fiancAC. Cherie Justus); step-son Doug (Louise) Wolfe; grandchildren Angie Cochran (Herb Doss), and Brendon Bland and his mother Betsy; great grandson Zac Bocook; brother Ernest (Doris) Murphy; sister Nancy (Donald) Grimes; many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Friends may call at the DEYO-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 1578 W. First Ave., Grandview Hts., Sunday 2-5 p.m. Graveside service Monday 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery. The family would like to thank their extended family at First Community Village for all of the years of tender loving care and to Homereach Hospice for their loving care over the past two months.
