I did not know John. I know his daughter, Angela Maxwell. She is a very devoted woman to many causes. Angela has amazing energy, and is very often the first to volunteer to help organize something. I know that John had much to do with the amazing woman that Angela is. My condolences to his family!

At the age of seventeen, John left his home in South Charleston, W.VA. to enroll at marshall University. While there he was Business manager of the Marshall newspaper, The Parthenon. John earned a degree in Philosophy. Most important of all, he met Joanne, his future wife. They were married 46 years. Added to their life were four daughters Marta, Pam, Angie and Tonya. Family life was fulfilled in the stately white house at Goodale Blvd. Jeanette McKenzie, Sister of Joanne and Matron of Honor at their wedding.

We will always remember John's humor and wit and the classic stories that he had a unique way of telling. I think they were all true . . . one only questions to what degree. This "picture" of John will put a smile on my face as well as many others . .I'm sure.

I met John via Bank One as I transferred here from Bank One Indianpolis in 1987. John and I worked together and played quite a bit of golf together. Prior to hime joining Heritage he and I played at several private clubs trying to find reasonable priced clubs that we might consider joining. While I had not seen John in several years I will always cherish our times together out on the golf course, we both enjoyed the time saying any bad day on the golf course still is better than any good day at the office. I am sure John will be happy being back with Joanne.

So sorry to hear about John. John & I were great friends in High School. We were in the same classes all through high school. We went to basketball games together. He was a very good person. I know you will miss him.

Janice & I had the pleasure of spending 2 weekends with John last month. It was difficult to watch him suffer incredible pain with the only possible relief being death explained his reason to continue this fight with one simple sentence " It's not for me, it's for my kids." What a demonstration of true love. Richard & Janice

I am thankful to have had privilege of meeting Mr. Warnke a few times this year. He left an indelible and positive impression upon me as a brilliant man and loving father. I will miss him. God bless.

John was many different things to many people. To Jeanine and me, he was a generous soul. He would always say, "come on in, have a drink or maybe something to eat." Both he and Jo would open their home and make you feel comfortable. We've shared a few Bourbons and watched golf matches together. Now John, you can watch them from on high! Always remember old friend, "old golfers never die, like sailors, they fade into the sunset!" Much Aloha, Jeanine & Cliff

Angie, I will forever remember your Dad in the shaded, cool TV room on a hot summer day...relaxing...dressed in his tennis or golf gear, watching tennis, soccer or golf. I remember when Ivan Llendl was a star and you and your Dad loved to watch him play. A quiet and serious man, always extremely gracious and kind, John was the perfect compliment to your mother's personality and they worked so well together. I still have the sweet note he sent me after Joanne passed. Though I didn't see your Dad day-to-day (or year-to-year, for that matter), I will miss him. My thoughts go out to you, Tonya, Marta and Pam and to John's grandchildren. Love, Mary

John was one of those people you meet and instantly felt as if you had known him for a lifetime. He always cared about your issues more than his or anything else. John had a knack of telling a story and you almost felt as if you experienced the event with him. His stories of he and "Big Red" were the best. He was a great and trusting friend and I will miss him greatly.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I work with Angela and she talks about her family every day so I feel like I almost know you all. Her stories reflect how close you all are and I know that while you will say goodbye for now to your father, you will be celebrating his life and keeping his memory alive by being the wonderful, strong, close and loving family he raised.

One of my fondest memories of John was his visit in Maine in the late '80s. He and Joanne were on a second honeymoon of sorts...they stayed at Mike's place (my husband) and borrowed his pilot friends sports car ( stored at our house while his freind was on deployment)....by the time we got the extended family, my mom and Dad, Momma Shirley, whoever else was there will have to remind me...Jeanette? angie?....over to Mike's place from my house...Joann and John had already hit the road in the sports car...we didn't see them again until the sun was setting...they had lots of adventures and stories, visiting places we had never seen in our several years of living there...meeting all sorts of people...living life at his fullest
