Mary Elizabeth Riggs

Mary Elizabeth Riggs (nee Geiger), 90, died June 20, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years William O. Riggs. She is survived by daughter Sharon Hendershot and son, William O. Riggs (Jeanette Leonhard), grandchildren, Joseph W. Smith, Glori Smith Fitch (John), Douglas R. Smith, David Scott Riggs (Martha), Karen Christine Riggs Rowley (Dwane) and great-grand children Charles Fitch, John Fitch, Ava Rowley and Michael Rowley. Mary was born in Summit Station, Licking County. She graduated from Columbus School for Girls and Bliss Business College and also attended Ohio State University. She was a member of Theta chapter of Delta Zeta National Sorority and John Patterson Chapter of the DAR, where she held chapter offices of chaplain, corresponding secretary, and treasurer. She became a member of Ann Simpson Davis chapter DAR in Columbus. She and her husband lived for 40 years in Florissant, Missouri where they both worked for the Department of Defense. She also worked for the Ohio Department of Unemployment Compensation and East Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was an active member of Parker Road Baptist Church in Florissant, Missouri. In March of 08, she moved to Columbus to be near her daughter and has been attending Upper Arlington Lutheran Church with her. She enjoyed needle work and had many lovely homemade sweaters. Friends may call at the DEYO-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 1578 W. First Ave., Grandview Hts., Wednesday 6-8 p.m. where service will follow at 8 p.m. She will be interred beside her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbus School for Girls.
