Mary Margaret Carey Thomas, 97, a long-time resident of Grandview Heights, passed away on December 3, 2012 at Westminster-Thurber Community. She was born on May 15, 1915 in Sidney Ohio to Florence Love Orbison and Samuel Maxwell Carey. She later moved to Columbus where she attended Bliss College and worked at Battelle Memorial Institute. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor King Thomas and brothers, Orbison and Stuart Carey. She was a member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church, Grandview Civic Association and a variety of water color and painting groups. Mary was an accomplished painter and participated in several regional showings. She especially loved to paint many of the scenes she and Vic enjoyed in their twenty-five years of travel. Mary was a devoted wife and mother and freely gave her time to others. She served as a Girl Scout Leader for all four daughters and actively participated as a GHHS Band parent. She will be remembered for her beautifully decorated cakes and confections. Mary is survived by daughters Victoria Thomas Stanton, Kathleen (Paul) Thomas Box, Jane King Thomas and Deborah Ann (Rick Hudson) Thomas; grandsons David and Justin Stanton, John and Sam Box, and Joshua Hudson. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Westminster-Thurber Community, 717 Neil Ave., Sunday 1:30 p.m. Chaplain Mark Arni officiating. There will be a private graveside service in Georgetown, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boulevard Presbyterian Church or Westminster-Thurber Community.
