Oliver "Ollie" Welch Hord, 95, of Grandview Hts., went to a beautiful place June 13, 2013, to be with Our Lord, his parents, his siblings and his wife Mary Frances. He was the youngest child of 9 to William and Frances Hord of Upper Arlington. Oliver grew up during the depression and held many jobs to help support the family, after his father passed away when Oliver was only 12 years of age. These jobs included a pop stand, a bicycle shop, and even working in a numbers house, hoping it would not get raided by the police which it never was. Oliver graduated from the Arlington School system. He also completed a 2-year Business School in 18 months. He went on to be an accountant for Columbus Packing, an agent for Monumental Insurance, Credit Manager for Minneapolis Moline and Pittsburgh Plate Glass. Oliver was credit manager for the Sherwin-Williams Co. In this position, he moved his family to Perrysburg, Ohio for 2 years. While still working for Sherwin-Williams, Oliver became the executive director of the local Chapter of the National Association of Credit Management. While accomplishing all of this, he had time to spend camping, stamp collecting, antiquing and taking care of his family. The favorite hobby he loved to do was rehab houses and resell them. He did this with his sons. After retiring, Oliver volunteered for the food pantry at 2nd & High St., also becoming their general manager. He was forced to give up volunteering because of blindness in 2007. Oliver was also one of the Original "Donut Hole Gang" of the Donut Shop at W. 3rd & Elmwood Ave. where they solved all of the local and National problems, most mornings each week. He is survived by sons Darryl Oliver (Wanda), James Michael (Judy), Roger Neil (Barbara) and Dennis Lee (Pamela); 18 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; niece Athenia Evangeline Athans.
