Pauline Fae Steele

Pauline Fae Steele, passed away peacefully at The Forum on September 13, 2012 after an extended illness. Born in Lodi, Ohio on August 24, 1924. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Gladys Steele, her twin sister Virginia Rae (Steele) Young and her brother-in-law James L. Young. She is survived by her niece Leslie J. Young. A graduate of Miami University (Ohio) with a bachelor's degree in business, Pauline also graduated from The Ohio State University with an undergraduate degree in dental hygiene and a graduate degree in education. After working in the Columbus Public Schools to promote children's dental health, Pauline accepted the opportunity to start the Dental Hygiene Program at the West Virginia University. Subsequently, she was the Director of Dental Hygiene at the University of Cincinnati and then spent the majority of her career as the Director of Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan with the rank of full tenured Professor. Textbooks written by Pauline were adopted by universities throughout the United States and internationally. Pauline published numerous articles, edited publications for dental colleagues and was invited to give a presentation in Spain. Pauline took pride in her profession and in her students. In addition to her professional career, Pauline enjoyed time especially holidays and vacations with her family. A woman of faith, she was an active member of her church especially during her tenure in Ann Arbor. Pauline in a quiet understated way was very generous to others. A special mention of appreciation to the care-giving staff at The Forum who treated Pauline as as family and to the team at Vitas Hospice who gave her extra TLC during the later stage of her illness. Friends may call at the DEYO-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 1578 W. First Avenue, Grandview Hts., Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with at prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agatha Church, 1860 Northam Rd., Upper Arlington. Fr. Dan Ochs and Fr. Art Espelage concelebrating (Procession to form at the church). Commital immediately following at Union Cemetery.
