Robert Chutes Obituary

Robert (Bob) D. Chutes passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the age of 93 years young. Bob was born on May 26, 1928 in Marietta, Ohio, a hometown in which he was proud to have roots. Bob is the son of the late Bernice Irene Jones Chutes and Herbert Ivan Chutes. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 44 years, Eunice (Sanderson McKnight) Chutes who passed away on March 26, 2016. To many the couple was known as “a pair of chutes” or simply as “E + B”. The peace of Bob’s passing is knowing he is reunited with his “Queen Eunie.” His three sisters, Leah Reynolds, Betty (Avery) White, and Lois Parson also preceded him in death. Bob is survived by his children, Dan (Julie) Chutes of Kentucky; Lori (Robin) Buckley of Marietta, Ohio; and stepson, Mark (Jeanne) McKnight of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren Aaron Carver, Mahria (Sam) Hall, Amy (Justin) McKnight, Jeff (Allison) McKnight and great-grandchildren Zack, Seth, Lexis, and Luke from Marietta, Ohio and Chloe and Sebastian from Columbus, Ohio. Bob was known to have many special bonds with close family and friends including sister-in-law Scheila Sanderson, nieces Julia (Randy) Brewer and Shelli (Brett) Miller, nephew John (Beth) Higgins, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; affectionately called “Uncle Bob” by many and a host of loyal friends including Omar and Soco Camacho, Brenda Breeze, Mark (Mary Kay) Hawkins, and of great importance, his “Coffee Club” buddies. Bob graduated from Marietta High School and Cincinnati College of Embalming working many years in the Hadley Funeral Home and the Wieser and Cawley Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Marietta, Ohio as an embalmer, funeral director, and salesperson; Bob had many charismatic skills. Bob left Marietta and accepted a position with Lees Carpet and followed this as a manufacturer’s representative for several carpet mills manufacturing Axminster woven carpet and took pride in providing carpet and friendship with Wendy’s for 34 years, Bob Evans for 30 years as well as designing carpet for the Ohio Statehouse Capital; Ohio Supreme Court Building; American Electric Power; Columbus Theaters—Ohio, Southern, and Palace; Ohio Bell, Motorist Insurance and several hotels, country clubs, theaters and offices throughout the United States and other countries. Bob loved seeing his carpet in public spaces and sharing the stories that inspired the patterns and colors. Bob was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in Korea. He was a Lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 64, Elks Lodge No. 477, 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 390, Knights Templar Commandery No. 50 in Marietta, and Aladdin Shrine Temple. Bob also served as president of three different condominium associations while living in the Upper Arlington area. He enjoyed golf and traveling of all types. Bob loved and adored his wife, children, family, and all the many friends he met and traveled with all over the world. Bob succeeded in his goal to be remembered for being generous, kind, and respectful, just like Eunice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Marietta Community Foundation. At Bob's request his body has been donated to The Ohio State University Anatomy department for medical education and research.
